A residential building at 1646 North Orchard Street in the Old Town neighborhood of Lincoln Park has reached the second floor. Crews from developer and general contractor Urban Edge Group have reached the underside of the third level of the four-story with basement, five-unit development. Progress is moving along quickly, with UEG targeting a spring 2025 opening for the homes.
The City of Chicago issued a new construction permit for the property on June 24 of this year. Designed by Hanna Architects, the permit calls for a six-car garage with a roof deck at the rear of the site, a roof deck atop the residential building, and rear terraces on all four levels in the back.
The existing building, at 1644-46 North Orchard, was demolished by Land Enterprises after a demolition permit was issued on July 23, 2024.
Residents of 1646 will live within two blocks of CTA bus service via Routes 8 and 72, as well as the North/Clybourn Red Line station at North Avenue and Halsted Street.
