At 1321 North Ashland Avenue in West Town, which earlier this fall saw the demolition of a 100-year-old brick building, activity has transitioned to construction mode. Work has begun on a new four-story, nine-unit building from developer and general contractor SRD Development Group, designed by Red Architects.
Issued by the City of Chicago on June 3 of this year, the new construction permit calls for roof decks, balconies on the three upper floors, and retail space at ground level. There will be a detached seven-car garage at the rear of the property, accessed by an alley that connects to Ashland Avenue, Blackhawk Street, and Bosworth Avenue.
1321 North Ashland Avenue lies two blocks north of the Ashland and Division intersection, where residents will find access to CTA bus service via Routes 9, 56, and 70, as well as the Division Blue Line subway station. Grocery and home-improvement stores across the street contribute to the desirability of residences located here.
