A residential development next to the Metra tracks in Pilsen is nearing completion. 1109 West 16th Street is a two-story with finished basement, three-unit building being constructed by developer Joseph Barbaro. A new construction permit was issued for the property back in January of this year, and now it appears that exterior work is complete, and new residents could be moving in very soon. They’ll find one parking space per unit under a carport at the rear of the building, plus a rooftop deck on the residential building and rear decks on both upper floors.
Working on a design by local architect Eduard Livano, Chicago’s Sitepro Services is the general contractor for the new building. They also provided did thew demolition work when the previous property got its demo permit in December 2023. A Redfin listing showed that home, built in 1868, had sold in September of last year for $487k. Efforts to find listings for the new units have so far proved fruitless.
Residents here will live about three blocks away from the Halsted Street Metra platform and its BNSF trains. CTA bus service is available for Routes 8, 18, and 60 within a three-block walk. The 18 bus can be used to connect to the 18th Pink Line platform, just less than a mile west.
