Demolition of 2034 North Racine Avenue opens the door for two new units in Lincoln Park

Demolition is nearly complete of a masonry multi-residence building at 2034 North Racine Avenue in Lincoln Park. That clears the way for developer Real View Design and Development to erect a two-unit residential project on the site. A pending permit with the City of Chicago, applied for on May 31, calls for a three-story structure with a basement and a detached two-car garage. Each dwelling unit will have a rear-facing terrace, while the garage will be topped by a roof deck.

The previous building, built in 1904, was “deconstructed” rather than being torn to the ground, according to the developer. Recyclean was the demo contractor who handled that work. We hope to be able to share some photos of that process in the future.

2034 North Racine Avenue sits less than two blocks north of CTA Route 73 bus service at Clybourn and Cortland. Less than half a mile to the east is the nearest elevated train access, at the Armitage Brown/Purple Line platform.

  1. It looks like the original building may have had three units. Is this actually a reduction in unit count?

  2. Should have made it taller(more units) considering the history being destroyed.
