Lakeside Alliance, the construction conglomerate building the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park, announced the topping out of the Center’s Museum Tower on their LinkedIn account earlier this month. The Chicago Sun-Times reported then that the Presidential Center was about 56% complete.

A joint venture between Powers & Sons Construction Company, UJAMAA Construction Inc., Brown & Momen, Inc., Safeway Construction Company, and Turner Construction Company, the Alliance broke ground for the facility back in September 2021. And just as he was for the groundbreaking ceremony, President Obama himself was in attendance for topping-out festivities.

The 235-foot-tall tower, a design by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, is just one entity of the center. Also included will be a Forum Building serving as a community space for local organizations to hold meetings and workshops, a public library, and a large, landscaped campus.

Visitors to the Obama Presidential Center will have access to 425 parking spaces should they choose to drive to and from, but there are also a myriad of public transportation options serving the Jackson Park area. Along Stony Island Avenue is CTA bus service for Routes 2, 6, 15, and 28. Short distances from the park allow access to Routes 10, 59, 63, 171 and 172. The Metra Electric Line has  stops at 59th Street and 63rd Street just two block west of Jackson Park.

  1. The silhouette looks quite spectacular when passing by on the Rock Island route.

A direct west elevation really pops out on the skyline.

  2. I’m hoping this is one of those buildings that you need to wait until it’s finished and see it in person in order to judge it. I didn’t like the Saint Regis tower in the planning stages or while being built. But the finished product I think is spectacular. It’s one of my favorite Chicago buildings.

    • The St Regis a great building from 3 sides. Viewed from the South looking North it has the most random arrangement of ventilation cutouts that absolutely mutilate the symmetry of the facade

  3. This is going to be awesome for the city and for the south side.
