Zion Woods, a project for affordable housing, has begun construction on a nine-acre parcel next to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deerfield. Initiated by the church over a decade ago, the development aims to address the increasing need for affordable housing in the area. The project, which saw its groundbreaking ceremony recently, is expected to be ready for occupancy by mid-2025.
The development will consist of 25 affordable rental units, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. These units will be available to those who meet the income standards for affordable housing. The monthly rent for a two-bedroom unit will range from $550 to $950.
The project faced several challenges, including opposition from neighbors and the need for flood-proofing the site. The Housing Opportunity Development Corporation, in partnership with Brinshore Development, is overseeing the project.

Should have asked Chicago to sell them Cabrini row houses instead, those would look better if properly restored
Feels a bit like a cheap apartment complex from the 70s. I fully support the project and don’t believe we benefit from making affordable housing unnecessarily expensive, but I feel this could have been easily done better.
