Exterior work continues to advance for the new Sarah’s on Lakeside development, located at 4737 N Sheridan Road in Uptown. The five-story residential building, developed by Sarah’s Circle, a non-profit organization established in 1979 to assist women experiencing homelessness or in need of safe living environments, is situated at the corner of Sheridan and Lakeside, replacing a formerly vacant lot. The project began in June 2022 with a budget of $16 million.

The building will include 28 affordable Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units, each approximately 350 square feet and equipped with private kitchens. Shared laundry facilities will be available on each floor, and utilities will be included in the rent. The ground floor will house a multi-use area, demonstration kitchen, office spaces, restrooms, and areas for staff and case managers, while the second floor will feature a computer lab and an outdoor terrace.

Funding for the project comes from the Department of Housing, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, and a $3.1 million contribution from the nearby ‘Solverre’ development. The site is a one-minute walk from the Sheridan & Lawrence intersection, which offers bus access for Routes 81 and 151. The Red and Purple Lines can also be accessed via Wilson Station, located an eight-minute walk southwest.

  1. Personally I would have loved to see this be a little taller, we so desperately need more spaces like this built in the city. I also find it annoying and depression that the city doesn’t just build more of these on its own. But its fine, this one is nice
