Construction is nearly complete at 1431 W Taylor Street in Little Italy. Led by real estate investor and hotelier Jonathan Gordon, the existing structure has been converted into a 35-room hotel with retail space on the ground floor.
This five-story project serves as an addition to the ‘Neighborhood’ Hotel chain, designed for extended stays in apartment-style suites. The suites come with features such as fully equipped kitchens, a washer/dryers, and private patios (for select listings). Floor plan sizes range from 1 bedroom / 1 bath up to 2 bedrooms + queen sleeper / 1 bath.
The design retains much of the original facade and structure of the building, originally constructed in 2003, with the addition of new windows and dark metal paneling. A new enclosure has been constructed on the fifth story, while certain interior elements, such as the inductees’ names on the wall, have been retained. von Weise Associates is the architect for the project.
The site offers close access to several public transit options. Bus services for Routes 7, 9, X9, 12, 157 are within a five-minute walk. The CTA L’s Pink Line is a 10-minute walk northwest via Polk station, and the Blue Line at Racine station is approximately the same distance to the northeast.
H. Madrigal Construction is the general contractor, per a revised permit issued March 27, with the construction cost adding up to just over $4 million based on the issued permits. According to its website, the hotel is now operational as final exterior work wraps up.

We would like to correct information on this write-up. The General Contractor for the project was not Fredy N Crew, it was H. Madrigal Construction Inc., a woman owned GC company.
Fredy N Crew was listed as the original GC, but I see the revision that changed the GC to H Madrigal. A correction has been made.
