1400 S Wabash Finalizes Park and Exterior Construction in South Loop

Final landscaping and metalwork are in progress at 1400 S Wabash Avenue. The 30-story, 350-foot tower, developed by Lendlease, will add 299 new rental units and ground-floor retail space to the South Loop neighborhood.

The available floor plans offer a variety of choices, with studios starting from $1,805, convertibles at $1,856, one-bedroom units with one bathroom at $1,975 and with two bathrooms from $2,293. The building also offers two-bedroom flex units at $2,464, standard two-bedroom units from $2,800, three-bedroom units at $4,180, and penthouses starting at $5,000.

Photo by Jack CrawfordThe building features numerous resident amenities such as a well-equipped fitness center, a demo kitchen, a dog washing station, a game room with a billiards table, a resident lounge, a library, and a rooftop terrace that provides city and lake views. The building will also accommodate 105 parking spaces, 180 bike parking stalls, and a small park on the site’s northern end.

Designed by Pappageorge Haymes, the project has a predominantly glass facade with metal paneling, and a textured exterior with interlocking rectangular protrusions and indentations.

For residents, tenants, and visitors, the site offers easy access to public transit. The site is a short walk to bus stops for multiple routes and just six minutes on foot to the Roosevelt station serving the Red, Green, and Orange CTA Lines.

Lendlease has acted as the general contractor for the project, with costs reported to be around $100 million. With move-ins now underway, the tower is nearing a full completion this summer.

  3. how many affordable units? People need housing. It’s a travesty that they’re only including 8. seriously?!? We’ll be protesting to include more.
