The Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is asking for community feedback on the Altenheim Line Framework Plan. This plan centers around the goal of creating opportunities for developments anchored around a new elevated two-mile stretch of recreational trail touching the North Lawndale, East Garfield Park, and West Garfield Park neighborhoods.

The draft framework plan is accessible as a PDF found on the DPD website, and comments are encouraged. All feedback can be sent via email at DPD@CityofChicago.org.

The DPD has extended the deadline for input on the draft to December 30, 2022. The finalized version goes to the Chicago Plan Commission for potential adoption early next year.

As it stands, the current plan draft was written with input from local residents and stakeholders who joined the planning meetings as early as last fall. These meetings held between 2021 and 2022 and organized and considered: “building a sense of community ownership and control” while introducing measures to boost local economic growth, and accessible pathways for all to enjoy.

Long Overdue for a community that deserves this and much more

  2. This is preparing the ground for gentrification to continue its push westward. When will developers have proposals for the parking lots around the United Center?
