The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning for a new industrial building at 8900 S Genoa Avenue in Auburn Gresham. Located across 11 lots on the intersection with W 89th Street, the new structure replaces a one-story repair garage and a large vehicle lot. The developer and architect listed for the project is Safety & Security Real Estate Solutions LLC.

The new 18,100 square-foot facility will be used for growing and processing cannabis under a newly issued license with the state. It will be 30-feet tall with a large growing room along with 20-vehicle parking spaces for staff and delivery drivers.

The zoning approval allows the lot to go from an M1-1 Limited Manufacturing/Business Park District to that of M2-1 Light Industry District.Future workers will be able to reach the site via CTA bus route 8A via a two-minute walk, routes 24 and 87 as well as the Metra Gresham station via a five-minute walk.

A construction timeline has not been revealed nor has the name of the formal business operator, however with the scope of work it should be completed within a year of groundbreaking.
