A permit was approved earlier this week for a new residential building at 620 S Spaulding Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The owner of the permit is listed as Kirby Burkholder of the nonprofit IFF, and the current plans indicate this is a supportive housing project that will yield six total units. Laura Flores is listed as the architect of record. As of yet, drawings and renderings have been disclosed. This project will bring more affordable units to the neighborhood and will replace an existing one-story masonry building.

For those looking for transportation, they will find the nearest station available is Kedzie-Homan with service for the CTA L Blue Line. Future residents will also be able to find Route 7 bus service readily accessible as the Harrison & Spaulding stop is steps away from the future building. There are shopping opportunities and restaurants all along W Harrison Street. Green space is also readily available with the south end of Garfield Park a mere 15-minute walk from the future build.

The Bowa Group Inc is acting as the general contractor for the $2 million construction. A full timeline and an anticipated completion date have not yet been revealed.
