Ground-floor brickwork is now making its way up the six-story residential building at 2700 N Sheffield Avenue in Lincoln Park. The 85-foot-tall edifice will be the third building in the apartment complex known as Edith Spurlock Apartments, residing between the two existing brick buildings that are being renovated alongside the new construction.
Developed by Pirhl in partnership with the Chicago Housing Authority, the contemporary addition will yield 80 residences, bringing the complex’s total unit count to 485.
While all the units within the existing buildings will be set aside for seniors, the new addition will be open to all ages. Apartment sizes will range from one- to three-bedroom residences, offering private balconies in select listings.
The architecture firm RATIO has envisioned a white rain screen frontage with recessed floor-to-ceiling windows and cantilevered concrete balconies. Along the first level is a combination of brickwork and a tall glass window wall system to welcome residents into the double-height lobby.
On-site parking will make room for 50 cars and 110 cars. As far as nearby public transit, closest bus service is available for Route 76 underneath the Diversey L station via a three-minute walk north. This station offers service for both Brown and Purple Lines, while additional Red Line service can be found via a nine-minute walk south to Fullerton station. Further bus access is also available for Route 8 at Halsted & Diversey via an eight-minute walk northeast.
Leopardo Companies and Ujamaa Construction are serving as a joint venture for the general contracting work. Both the construction and broader renovations for the complex are expected to complete by 2024.

wow this infill makes a huge improvement on this street, not a fan of the giganto decks though
contextually, rather third rate.
it makes no reference to it’s location – could have been built on NW Highway in Arlington Heights. Too bad it misses the boat on so many urbanistic and architectural elements…..
