A demolition permit was issued Wednesday to remove a mixed-use masonry building located at 6607 S Dr. Martin L King Jr Drive in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as the Project H.O.O.D Construction Corp. The 501 c(3) organization has been providing mentorship, training, and community for residents of Woodlawn and Englewood since its founding in 2011 and is headquartered across the street from the building at 6620 S Dr. Martin L King Jr Drive.

Transit options are available with bus service for Route 3 across the street from the property site at the King Drive & 66th Street stop. The CTA Green Line can be found at the King Drive station via an eight-minute walk north. There are many dining and retail options readily accessible along nearby E 67th Street.

Spirit Wrecking and Excavating is serving as the demolition contractor. While no permits or plans for a future build have been submitted at the time of this writing, given the proximity to Project H.O.O.D’s headquarters it is possible that we’ll see an expansion of the existing campus.
