A new sports-themed bar is joining the popular River North neighborhood. The lease was commercially brokered by @properties for the recently-opened Barstool sports bar, at 14 W. Hubbard Street in Chicago. The 8,500-square-foot commercial venue was formerly occupied by Henry’s Swing Club. The location opened on January 8 and is the very first sports bar to open under the Barstool Sports brand.
This venture is an extension of the New York City-based Barstool Sports brand, founded by Dave Portnoy. Barstool also plans to open a location in Philadelphia’s Center City neighborhood at the former Brickwall Tavern at 1213 Sansom Street, according to reports.
According to reports, Michael Weber and Ian Feinerman of @properties Commercial represented SBH Chi LLC, an entity affiliated with Stanton & Bowery Hospitality of West Palm Beach, Fla., which will operate the venue on behalf of Barstool Sports. The building is owned by DynaProp Development Corporation, which was represented in the transaction by Daniel Pedemonte of GDP Group.
When asked for a comment, Weber indicated that the outlook for restaurant and bar openings in Chicago is looking up based on early 2022 activity. “In just the first two weeks of 2022, we’ve seen a steady stream of inbound inquiries by restaurant and hospitality clients looking to expand their brands, and/or develop second-generation restaurant spaces.”
