Permits have been issued for a two-story addition to an existing two-story commercial building located at 44 E Walton Street in Near North Side. Owned by Rush Walton LLC, the L-shaped building currently houses a variety of retail storefronts and will continue to be retail-oriented once the new portion is complete. The filing description seems to indicate that the addition will be a separate mercantile space from the existing stores, with frontage located at 937 N Rush Street that lies caddy-corner to Walton Street.

Brian Hirami is the architect of record. No drawings or renderings for the addition could be found, though multiple masonry contractors may indicate a brick exterior for the addition and possible re-clad of the lower two floors.

Located two blocks southeast of the Rush & Division’s commercial center, future shoppers and tenants will find a wide array of bus options in an immediate two-block radius, including Routes 22 and 36 to the west, as well as Routes 143, 146, 147, 148, and 151 to the east. CTA L access meanwhile lies at the Red Line’s Chicago subway station, a six-minute walk southwest. The Brown and Purple Lines are also available via a 14-minute walk southwest to the other Chicago station.

Monoceros Corporation is the general contractor for the $1.6 million construction. An estimated completion date has not been announced.
