Updated photos show the addition of mosaic-like cladding near the southwest side of Catalog, a near-complete three-story structure surrounding the base of Willis Tower in The Loop. This cladding marks the final exterior piece of EQ Group‘s 300,000-square-foot project at 233 S Wacker Drive, which houses updated tenant and visitor entrances, restaurants, and a third-floor meeting area by meeting space company Convene. Convene’s venue will offer tenants more than 90,000 square feet of rentable gathering areas. Atop the new structure is also 30,000 square feet of green space, accessible from the fourth floor of the original structure.
The colorful new wall juxtaposes with the dark metal facade and masonry accents that Catalog’s architect Gensler used to reflect the original architecture of Willis Tower. Catalog’s southern solarium also integrates a vast curved skylight, allowing visitors and tourists to easily gaze up at Chicago’s Tallest building. The east and west sides utilize lighter-colored masonry to emphasize their functions as entryways for office workers.
Visitors and tenants can find numerous buses nearby, including westbound stops for Routes 1, 7, 28, 121, 126, 130, 151, and 156 at the intersection of Adams & S Wacker, located at the northwest corner of the tower. The eastbound counterparts for most of these routes are available on the opposite end of the property at Jackson & Franklin. Jackson & Franklin also houses stops for Routes 134, 135, and 136. Lastly, those wishing to board Route 37 can find northbound access at Franklin & Adams, with southbound access one block east at Wells & Adams.
CTA L service for the Brown, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines can be found at Quincy station, located a two-minute walk east.
The new decorative piece at the southwest corner of the site is a serendipitous final step of the exterior. Renderings originally showed a series of windows in the accent’s place. A full completion appears imminent, with some equipment and scaffolding remaining, as well as minor street-level work required at the north side.
