Demolition permits have been issued for a two-story frame building at 2937 N Southport Avenue, located near the southwest corner of Lake View. The current structure has a mixed-material exterior and is occupied by multiple units.
The property’s owner is filed under Lawrence Warshaw. While it is unknown what Warshaw plans for the site, the parcel is zoned for B3-3, meaning large shopping and retail buildings with apartments above the ground floor.
The narrow footprint and lot lie just south of the intersection of N Southport Avenue and N Lincoln Avenue. N Lincoln Avenue, which runs northwest and southeast, serves a major commercial corridor with a variety of retail and dining options in the vicinity.
Bus access includes a four-minute walk south to Diversey & Southport, which is serviced by the 76 Bus. Access for Route 9 can be found via a six-minute walk west to Ashland & Wellington. Belmont & Greenview is an eight-minute walk northwest and serviced by Route 77. Both Route 9 and X9 service the Ashland & Belmont/Lincoln stop, a 10-minute walk northwest.
Access to the CTA L can be found for the Brown and Purple Lines at Wellington station, a 12-minute walk east. Additional access for those two lines as well as the Red Line can be found to the north at Belmont station, a 17-minute walk northeast.
DS Construction is listed as the wrecking contractor. A full timeline of the demolition or replacing structure is not currently known.
