Construction permits have been issued for a two-story retail building at 8125 S Halsted Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Previously, a two-story masonry structure occupied the lot, with demolition permits issued in October of 2019. The new building, developed under the name Carol J. Galuszka, will be occupied on both floors by a liquor store. The store’s name appears to be Spirit Beer & Wine, which was listed in the October demolition permit.
Daniel Lee Hodgson is listed as the architect of record. While no renderings have yet been revealed, permits indicated a masonry facade in the filing’s project description.
The site’s nearest bus access is less than a block north at Halsted & 81st Street, serviced by the north and southbound Route 8A bus. Additional bus stops within a 10-minute walk include Routes 8, 79, and 169 to the north, as well as Route 24 to the east. The Red Line for the CTA L can also be found via a 25-minute walk northeast to the 79th station. Lastly, the Metra rail’s RI Line is located via a 12-minute walk south to Gresham station.
L & M Construction Group will serve as the general contractor for the $580,000 project. A completion date has not yet been announced.
