YIMBY stopped by the site of 1802 S State Street, a four-story residential building currently under construction in South Loop.
The site sits at the corner of S State Street and W 18th Street next to a CTA L Red Line rail, and the nearest station is Cermak-Chinatown, a seven-minute walk southwest. Additional CTA access includes Cermak-McCormick Place, a seven-minute walk south. Bus access for routes 29 and 62 stop at the State & 18th Street intersection, a one-minute walk north.
A variety of shops and cafes are located nearby, like Kroll’s South Loop two blocks east and Tapas Valencia three blocks north. Other nearby points of interest include Margaret Hie Ding Lin Park adjacently across the State & 18th intersection, and a Mariano’s, a five-minute walk northwest.
The developer, Episteme Luxury, has planned for 39 condominiums in a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.
The design by SPACE Architects + Planners features a mix of architectural elements on the facade, including inset balconies, brick masonry running the full height of the structure, as well as a decorated metal corner exterior.
Construction appears nearly complete on the facade, and 1802 S State Street is expected to be officially complete later this year.
