Revised plans have been approved for an upcoming residential development at 5638 North Ashland Avenue in Andersonville. Sitting mid-block between West Hollywood Avenue and West Olive Avenue, the new structure would replace three existing residential buildings and their rear garages. Initial plans were originally revealed in April.

After receiving approval from the local Alderman, the project has now also been approved by the Chicago City Council as of last week. Efforts are being led by Mackinaw Development LLC, with local architecture firm MC & Associates working on the design. Changes to the plans focused on rearranging the ground floor to add a parking spot.

The ground floor will still hold three units along with a rearranged parking garage in the rear for five vehicles. These will join eight exterior spots along the rear alley for a total of 13. The four floors above will contain the rest of the 27 total residential units. These will be made up entirely of two-bedroom layouts, a growing trend in new developments.

Units will range from around 900 to 1,100 square feet in size, all of which will feature a private balcony. Of the unit total, five will be considered affordable. The brick-clad structure will cap out around 60 feet in height, holding a small rooftop deck as well. With zoning approved, the team can now move forward with applying for permits. No timeline is known.
