The tower crane that will build Loyola University’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing and the College of Arts and Sciences building has been erected and is doing heavy lifting. A visit on May 13 showed only the base planted on the site, but a Purple Line Express ride on Thursday of last week revealed a complete crane. One enormous street crane was still on site when we passed by, but we can’t say for sure which days it worked on assembly the full rig.

Chicago is close to adding a few more cranes to the sky, but naturally, what goes up must also come down. Namely the 400 lake Shore tower crane, which is slated for disassembly in early June. But we have a pair to look forward to at the Chicago Fire F.C. stadium, one of which is permitted and has its base set in the ground. We know this thanks to Instagram’s MrSouthLoop, who dropped sent us a photo. The east crane is still pending.

The 1901 Project and Halsted Pointe are the other two most recent tower cranes permitted. Both were permitted this month; the Loyola crane got its permit back in March. it has been a few weeks since we’ve been to 1901 and Halsted Pointe, so drop us a line if you see the cranes going up like Alex did.
