A new construction permit was granted by the city on November 12 to complete a residential development at 936 West Leland Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood. Addressed to 940 West Leland, the permit allows West Leland Avenue LLC, an entity registered in Reno, Nevada, to begin work on their five-story building.

936 West Leland will be a 32-unit apartment building with a six-car garage integrated into the ground floor. Storage spaces for 36 bicycles will be located next to the parking, while a pair of residential units, a small exercise room, and the residential lobby round out the first level. The four upper floors will contain the remaining 30 apartments, consisting of six studio units, 10 one-bedroom apartments, 13 two-bedroom units, and a single three-bedroom unit. Six apartments are being set aside as affordable units.
The new construction replaces a long-vacant parcel three lots wide. ORG architecture studio designed the project, and D.O.M. Properties will provide general contracting services. Both are local Chicago firms. The permit shows an application date of May 14 and a reported cost of $9.5 million.

Tenants will be surrounded by CTA transit options. Several bus routes are available within a three-block walk, including 36, 78, 81, 136, 146, 148, and 151. The Lawrence Red Line elevated train platform is less than half a mile northwest at Lawrence Avenue next to the Aragon Ballroom.
