Structural steel that’s bringing a second life to the former Second Church Of Christ, Scientist in Lincoln Park has topped out. At 2700 North Pine Grove Avenue, Ogden Partners is mixing the new into the old, constructing a six-story building within three salvaged façade walls of the 1901-built Beaux-Arts church.

Everything within those three walls was hollowed out for the adaptive reuse of the church, which will deliver 22 residential units to the corner of Pine Grove and Wrightwood Avenues. MC Construction is the general contractor on the job, working with design plans from Booth Hansen.

The new building will still be utilized by the church; they’ll have nearly 4,800 square feet of ground-floor meeting space, with the primary entrance remaining along Wrightwood Avenue. Residential features will include below-grade parking, a shared rooftop deck, a small fitness center, and a bike storage room. Most units will be three-bedroom layouts, with some homes adding dens and inset balconies.

2700 North Pine Grove is located just east of Clark Street, with its access to the CTA’s Route 22 and 36 bus service. A two-block walk east from the new homes leads into the north end of the actual Lincoln Park, where Routes 134, 143, 151, and 156 all make stops on Stockton Drive. Less than two blocks north are stops for east-west bus service via Route 76 at Diversey Parkway; that bus can be used to connect to the Diversey Brown/Purple Line platform about three-quarters of a mile west.

  1. Great project bringing some density away from our noisy arterials while reusing a nice facade
