The Chicago City Council has approved the residential development at 4920 N Sheridan Road in Uptown. Set to replace a vacant lot on the corner with W Argyle Street, we originally covered the proposal earlier this year as its developers submitted a zoning application. Those developers being locals Kenny and Andy Lau.

Plans for the five-story building were originally revealed nearly a year ago, with local firm SPACE Architects + Planners working on its design. Once completed it will reach 66-feet in height but will not be the tallest structure on the block, bringing much needed density across the street from Buttercup Park and near the lakefront.

In total the project will contain 31-residential units made up of nine studios, 18 one-bedroom, and four two-bedroom layouts ranging from 425 to 750 square-feet in size. Six of these will be considered affordable as well. Meanwhile, the ground floor will hold a small fitness room, bike parking room, and four-vehicle parking spaces accessed from the rear alley.

All units will have access to a private balcony as well as a shared rooftop deck. The brick clad structure will utilize stone, metal panel, and faux wood accents to split up the overall facade. With City Council approval in hand, the developers can now move forward with construction permits and a groundbreaking, however a timeline is currently unknown.
