A three-story residential building being constructed at 5124 South Kenwood Avenue in Hyde Park has a pending permit to add a single-story addition. McInerney Properties received a permit from the City of Chicago on March 1 of this year to erect a nine-unit building here. A December 2022 fire damaged the previous property at this location, necessitating demolition.
The pending permit would allow for the extra level, including a private roof deck, while also making alterations to the three planned units on the third floor. It does not mention how many units, if any, are being added on the fourth floor. 360 Design Studio created the plans for the project. Details and features on the building permit are scant, but we know the development will include five outdoor parking spaces at the rear of the property.
A recent visit shows the crew from McInerney, who is also the general contractor, has reached the three stories in height, with plenty of building material on site to work with. At this time, no information is available about an expected completion date. It is unconfirmed as yet if these will be rental units or condos.
