Two workers cottages have been demolished, and now construction work is underway, for a new residential development in the Bucktown neighborhood at 2129 North Damen Avenue. The cottages, both likely built in the 1900s-1910s, were permitted for demolition on September 6, and were torn down soon after. Once demo contractor DemoX was finished removing rubble, general contractor BM UK Enterprise Company got to work on the new build. The entity of Development Group LLC Fulton Market Branch is named in the new construction permit, issued August 19, as the developer.
Designed by Hanna Architects, 2129 North Damen will be a four-story building containing six dwelling units. The ground floor will include retail space along the Damen street front, with two parking spaces toward the rear of the building. A rooftop deck will crown the residences. A detached garage at the back of the lot will provide four more parking spots, and will also be topped by a roof deck. Rear porches on the upper three floors of the residential building will add even more outdoor space.
Residents of 2129 North Damen will live within a one-block walk of CTA Route 50 buses, and a Divvy bicycle station. The nearest elevated train is the Damen Blue Line platform about three-quarters of a mile south; the 50 bus can be used as an easy connection.
