Construction is in progress for a pair of condominiums at 1436 West School Street in Lake View. The new building replaces a multi-unit two-story home, built in 1890, that previously occupied the site. That property received its demolition permit in March and was quickly dispatched.

The new 1436 West School will be a three-story with basement, one duplex-up, one duplex-down development designed by Hanna Architects. The duplex-down will have a terrace at the rear of the home, while the duplex-up will feature a second-story balcony with a stairway that will lead to a rooftop deck. A detached three-car garage will also be adorned by a rooftop deck.
General contractor and developer EZMB got a permit to begin construction on April 23 of this year. Foundation work has been done, and progress is now being made on the first floor.

With its convenient location along the Southport Corridor, residents of 1436 West School will be within a three-block walk of the CTA’s Southport Brown Line platform. North-south travel is accessible via the Route 9 and X9 buses two blocks east at Ashland Avenue, and an east-west bus is available two blocks south at Belmont.
