Chicago has regained one of its street-front news studios as Studio A reopens at 34 W Washington Street in The Loop. Located on the intersection with N Dearborn Street, the space overlooks Daley Plaza and is part of the Block 37 complex. The work was led by local station WBBM-TV/Channel 2, or CBS 2 as it is commonly known.
Originally built in 2008, the 3,500 square-foot Studio A is part of the much larger 100,000 square-foot space operated by the network within the lower levels of the building. Initially designed by Goettsch Partners, the offices are also home to Studio B on the upper levels which is where the network has been broadcasting from in recent years.
The station moved its broadcast in 2017, but after no avail in leasing the space out for retail, new leadership decided to revive the storefront studio for weather. However it has now been revealed that their daily newscast will also be broadcasted out of the renovated state-of-the-art space, with customizable video cube and more.
Unlike when it originally opened, the news desk will emphasize the views onto Daley plaza to incorporate the city into the show. They have also installed speakers to allow for the newscasters to speak to the audience outside. This comes after the network restored its large LED screen facing the plaza in 2022.
CBS is now one of two storefront studios in the area, joining ABC 7 just two-blocks away on state street. The station officially switched on the new studio yesterday for their 4 p.m. broadcast.

Should have waited until after the Democratic Convention , with Daley Plaza across the street there will be a lot of loitering , or worse .
Nah, there will always be people loitering and protesting in this area. Drop a pin and there goes another protest. It’s a way of life for a lot of people.
I’m glad this studio is reopening. Looks so depressing all dark and empty
@Tupper—I agree.👍
