  1. banal black box

  2. Ok…who introduced the word “banal” to Millenials? Cuz, like, they’re using it more, like, than like? Like right?

    • I am sure the “banal” folk aren’t even from Chicago or live near the region. The international style became trademarked with Mies here. If anything, we are returning to our midcentury roots. I like some color here and there and would love a stronger presence of brick and timber. And some do nothing but whine about stuff being too glassy.

Anything gets proposed or built in this city; the architecture “experts” come out of the woodwork to give us a piece of their mind.

Best part, I have heard 3 year olds express more eloquent thoughts and opinions.

The day’s letter was B not too long ago, and the Banals made that a personality.

    • Nothing but a bunch of trolls who have thrown “banal black box” into every comment section by default, even for buildings that are not boxes, not black, or are neither.
