Initial details have been revealed for a potential new mixed-use development at 950 West Webster Avenue in Lincoln Park. Sitting mid-block between North Sheffield Avenue and North Bissell Street, the project would replace a large two-story commercial building abutting CTA tracks directly to the east.

While the developer is unknown, the proposal is set to be presented to the community later this Thursday through a 43rd Ward meeting hosted by Alderman Timmy Knudsen. The now relatively vacant existing building formerly held neighborhood classic McGee’s Tavern & Grille. McGee’s was in operation from 1987 until 2025, when its building was put up for sale.

Designed by local firm Hanna Architects, the five-story building would sit at the property line and boast 2,200 square feet of divisible commercial space across two storefronts. This would be joined by a small residential lobby, a 20-bike parking room, and eight vehicle parking spaces in the rear. The floors above would hold 20 residential units.

While details on the layout of the units are unknown, four of the units would be considered affordable. The exterior of the roughly 60-foot-tall structure would feature overhanging window bays and be mostly clad in red brick, with cast stone accents. The project will now need approval from the alderman before going to the city for zoning approval.
