General Contractor Power Construction is progressing from south to north on the third level of Loyola University’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing and the College of Arts and Sciences building. When we last visited the Rogers Park campus about six weeks ago, concrete columns and cores had begun extending out of the foundation to form the first floor. Now progress is up to the underside of the fourth floor at the Loyola Avenue (south) end of the site as Power works their way north on that third level.

The 200,000-square-foot facility is a design by Woodhouse Tinucci Architects. Addressed as 1144 West Loyola Avenue, the building will front North Sheridan Road from Loyola Avenue north to West Albion Avenue. This is the site of the former Campion Hall student residence, which was torn down last winter for the new building. Power got the foundation permit in January, with permission to build out the full construction coming through in July. The red Potain MD485B tower crane they’re utilizing is the northernmost crane in the city, barely edging out O’Hare’s rig for that distinction.

Per the school’s project information page, the new facility will allow expansion of the undergraduate nursing program from about 250 to 400 new students each year. The usable space, including 40,000 square feet in the basement, will include classroom spaces, advanced chemistry research labs, “one the nation’s largest anatomy simulation labs.” an community gathering areas. As the structure continues to rise to its ultimate six-story stature, those spaces will require a lot of indoor work. Loyola University predicts students to begin learning at the new facility at the start of the Fall 2028 semester.
