A two-story plus basement, two-unit home at 3402 South Lowe Avenue in Bridgeport was permitted for construction on July 22 by the City of Chicago. The permit came through with a reported cost of $505,000 exactly three months after its April 22 application start date. Details include a rear two-story stair and a front entrance stair, with a pair of outdoor parking spaces at the alley in the back.

The home sits at the back of the lot up against the alley with a large yard fronting Lowe Avenue. It is not explicitly clear that it is to be demolished, with the new dwelling units constructed on the front of the lot. And with demolition permits no longer searchable in the city’s permit status site, it is not known if a pending permit exists to tear it down. However, language in the construction permit that the two parking spaces are at the rear of the property almost certainly means demolition.

Real estate records show the 1888-built home was purchased for $270,000 in October 2024 by Wai Gat Kuo; Kuo Construction will be the general contractor on the new build. Vari Architects is listed as the architect of record. Three years before the home sold, the previous owner received a permit to replace the enclosed front porch with an open wood porch. That completed renovation is visible in Street View images.
