A wide-open lot at the south end of the 5200 blocks of South Bishop and South Laflin Streets in New City will see its first improvement, thanks to a new construction permit issued by the city on July 2nd. One block west of Sherman Park, 5232 South Bishop will be a two-story building with a Type A accessible unit on the first floor and a standard dwelling unit on the second level. The permit was in the portal for 45 days before coming through with a reported cost of $312,877.

Greenline Homes is the developer and general contractor, working with plans by Hanna Architects. The structure will have an attic level and a rear deck on the second floor. There is no parking mentioned for the property, which lies next to the east-west alley connecting Bishop to Laflin, but has no vertical alley that would run behind the lot. As of this writing, there are no other permits pending for either street on this parcel of land.

There are no elevated trains within reasonable walking distance, but a three-block walk south to West Garfield Boulevard takes you to the Route 55 bus, which when ridden eastbound, takes you to the Garfield Red Line platform almost two miles away at the Dan Ryan Expressway.

One heck of an empty lot. By the size of it I thought it was a city park.
