A modest single-family home at 243 West 22nd Place in the Chinatown neighborhood will soon be replaced, thanks to a construction permit issued by the city last month. A private developer applied for a building permit on November 9 of last year, and it came through on January 20 with a reported cost of $500,000.

The permit lists Variation Design LLC as the architect of record and Noble Builders Construction as the general contractor. There are no architectural details included in regards to outdoor spaces, but the permit does specify that the units will comprise one duplex-down and one duplex up. Whether they’ll be for rent or for sale is not addressed. No garage or surface parking is mentioned for now.
A demolition permit for the existing home has been pending in the Chicago Data Portal since December 4 of last year, and upon its release, Recon Excavating will be the demo contractor. Real estate records show the developer purchased the home, built in 1956, back in October for $400,000.
