On December 3, the City of Chicago issued a construction permit to allow for three residential units atop a first-floor restaurant space at 3328 South Halsted Street in Bridgeport. The application to build had been filed 11 months prior, before coming through with a reported cost of $937,500. 3328 S Halsted L&L LLC, registered to the same address as the permit, is named as the property owner.

The development site is situated on the northwest corner of Halsted Street and 33rd Place. The parcel was vacated via a demolition permit issued on December 12, 2023. A subsequent emergency demolition was ordered by the city in December 2024, stating that the building had collapsed, though Google images from September of that year show the building had already been razed.

It its place will be a three-story masonry building by architect Andrew Wang. The ground floor will contain a vanilla-box restaurant space, with the three dwelling units occupying the two upper levels. Outside, a pair of surface parking spaces will be added off the alley, as will be a masonry trash enclosure and, purportedly, a “new exterior masonry wall.” Three bicycle spaces will be located inside the building.

  1. Nice upgrade for this neighborhood. More units and fresh retail space. And it’s right next to a cool bookstore!
