A nine-unit residential building has been granted permission to begin construction at 805 North California Avenue in Humboldt Park. The benefactor of the permit is 4 Star Builders, who submitted an application for the approval on February 26th. It came through on May 5th, with a reported construction cost of just under $3.3 million.

Hanna Architects is the designer of the project. The permit calls for a four-story structure with retail space and a nine-car garage at ground level. The elevator building will have a rooftop deck with stair enclosures, plus balconies on the three upper floors. It will be fully sprinklered. 4 Star Builders will handle general contractor duties themselves.

A two-story masonry building on the northeast corner of Chicago and California Avenues, addressed as 2754 West Chicago but seen in Google images as 2758, was permitted for demolition on July 19th of last year to clear the site for the new development. B & K Concrete 1 of Blue Island handled demo work.

The CTA’s Route 66 and 94 buses are available at the intersection of Chicago and California. The Route 65 bus runs two blocks south along Grand Avenue and can be used to connect with the closest rail line, the Western Avenue Metra station about three-quarters of a mile southeast. MD-N, MD-W, and NCS trains stop here.
