A three-unit residential building at 1406 West Cuyler Avenue in Graceland West has quickly risen to its full height. Replacing a long-empty lot, Skal Construction & Development LLC obtained a permit to begin construction in January, but the site remained idle until the winter months had passed. The property came to life in March, when an excavator arrived and begin preparing the site for foundation work. Now, less than two months later, the three-and-a-half story building has topped out.

GSL Design of Glenview is the architect of record for the project. Features detailed in the construction permit include an open metal stairway connecting to decks on all levels at the back of the building, plus a masonry porch on the north façade, fronting Cuyler Avenue. The permit allows for three surface parking spaces off the alley in lieu of a garage, but it will not be surprising to see a garage permit issued before project completion.
The layout of the building will seem conducive to these units consisting of one duplex-down, one full-floor singleplex, and one duplex-up. That is mere conjecture, as there is no indication as yet if these will be rental apartments or for-sale condos.

Residents of 1406 West Cuyler will be a one-block walk from CTA bus service via Route 80 on Irving Park Road. One block east of there, at Irving Park Road and Clark Street, are stops for the Route 22 Clark bus. Routes 9 and X9 are four blocks west at Ashland Avenue. The Route 80 Irving Park bus can be used to connect with the Irving Park Brown Line elevated platform to the west and the Sheridan Red Line platform to the east. Both are a little more than half a mile from the construction site.
