Big progress has been made on a residential development at 2100 West 18th Place in the Lower West Side’s Pilsen neighborhood. Foundation work was just underway when we last visited the site in September, and now work has reached the third floor of the four-story project.

Oak Park’s R.P. Fox and Associates is both the developer and general contractor here. They’re bringing eight new apartments online, having received permission from the City of Chicago to begin construction back on March 27. This corner lot used to hold a two-story frame building; that was demolished earlier this year to clear the site for redevelopment. DesignBridge is behind the plans, which includes four outdoor parking spaces at the rear of the property. Construction costs are estimated to be $1.2 million.

2100 West 18th Place is providing only four parking spaces because it lies within easy walking distance of all of Chicago’s important transit options. CTA bus stops for Routes 18 and 50 are available one block away. The Damen Pink Line elevated platform is about three blocks away, at Damen Avenue and Cullerton Street. And Metra’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Western Avenue station is less than half a mile west, at 18th Street and Western Avenue.
