A renovation and alteration permit has been issued for 1530 East 65th Place in Woodlawn. The permit was applied for on April 29 and issued on September 12, after a processing time of 136 days. The scope of the work includes interior alterations to the common areas and six dwelling units in the three-story masonry building with a basement.

Part of the renovation involves converting the building from six dwelling units to four, addressing building code violations, and reconstructing the rear porch. The permit remains conditional upon field inspections.

The total fees for the renovation amount to $1,487.66. Of this, $375 has been paid, including $300 in building fees and $75 in zoning fees. The remaining $1,112.66 is still unpaid, consisting entirely of building fees. There are no zoning or other fees outstanding or waived for this project.

The project is being overseen by architect Martorina Salvatore. The building’s owner, Samir Navik, is located in Chicago. The estimated cost of the renovation is $100,000.

  1. We love deconversions and lowering area density!

    • For some of these old buildings, you need the extra space to meet Code and provide for amenities that people expect in modern buildings. Woodlawn has so much buildable land and ongoing construction, this is probably a net benefit, improving the existing housing stock.
