The Peoples Gas Pavilion, a photographic destination for Chicago residents and visitors alike, has reopened to the public at the Lincoln Park Zoo South Pond in Lincoln Park. Part of the zoo’s Nature Boardwalk, the Studio Gang-designed structure opened in 2010, but had recently closed for renovation.
According Studio Gang, the pavilion, which serves as an event space, educational facility, and photo backdrop, was closed while work crews installed new translucent shells to the “roof” and cleaned and repaired the wooden elements of the structure. They also cleaned and repainted the metal hinge base plates at the base. Coen Construction Services were the general contractor on the restoration.
Have a look and you’ll see why the pavilion is often referred to as “The Honeycomb.”
