225 N Elizabeth in Fulton Market Approaches Facade Completion as Seventh Tallest Construction Project

Facade work is nearing completion at the 225 North Elizabeth Street project in Fulton Market, a collaboration between Sterling Bay and Ascentris. This 28-story mixed-use building, situated at the corner of Fulton and Elizabeth Streets, ranks seventh in the construction countdown and has reached its maximum height of 314 feet.

Of the 350 residential units in the building, 70 are allocated as affordable housing, complying with Chicago’s Affordable Requirements Ordinance. The project also includes 10,000 square feet of retail space.

The development, designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, features a facade of glass and dark metal panels in a grid pattern, along with a rooftop amenity enclosure. Resident amenities encompass a lounge, fitness center, and a 27,000-square-foot terrace with exterior kitchens, fire pits, dining areas, a pool, and a dog run. Parking is available for 95 vehicles and 199 bicycles.

In terms of public transportation, the location is served by bus service for Routes 8, 20, 56, and 65, and is within a 10-minute walk of the Morgan station, which accommodates the Green and Pink Lines.

The construction, managed by McHugh Construction with a budget of $110 million, is expected to be completed by the first half of next year.

  1. And for comparison, last year’s #7 spot was 344 N Canal Street in the Fulton Market area.

    Rising 61 feet taller than this development at 314ft

  2. Not bad, but this area needs more human-scale developments over towers. Build out a mid-rise dense neighborhood instead of a bunch of toothpick looking towers surrounded by one-story low rises.
