A permit has been approved for an exterior renovation project at 8300 S St. Louis Avenue, the site of the Ashburn Community Elementary School in the Ashburn neighborhood. The permit is slated for various outdoor improvements, including a new artificial turf play lot, playground equipment, landscape and paving enhancements, a new trash enclosure, and a street-side fence. The listed owner of the project is the Chicago Public Schools.

Architect Robert Sit will lead the design, though no drawings or renderings of the plans have been posted.

No new parking is included within the current scope of the work. The location is serviced by several CTA bus lines, including Routes 52A, 53A, 87, which are all within a 10-minute walk. Additionally, the Ashburn Metra Station is within a three-minute walk from the property line.

The project’s general contractor is Reliable & Associates Construction. The reported construction cost for these renovations is $550,000. Currently, an estimated completion date for the project has not been announced.
