The Belden-Stratford, a 16-story Beaux-Arts-style property located at 2300 N. Lincoln Park W., Chicago, has reopened following an extensive renovation. Overlooking the Lincoln Park Zoo and Conservatory, this historic building, designed by Meyer Fridstein and constructed in 1923, transitioned from a residential hotel to rental apartments over time and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mansueto Office, an investment firm led by Joe Mansueto, a former resident of the property during the 1980s, acquired the property in 2018. They undertook the renovation work in late 2020, integrating the building’s historical design with modern amenities.
The restoration, carried out by project partners Solomon Cordwell Buenz, Vinci Hamp Architects, Bulley & Andrews, and property management firm Waterton, preserved the building’s architectural elements and updated the residential units. This involved modifications to the main entry, landscape architecture, south patio, and secondary entrances.
The Belden-Stratford houses 209 residential units, including studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, along with select penthouses featuring double-height living space. Sizes range from 483 to 1,689 square feet, contrary to a previous report. All apartments offer at least nine-foot ceilings, stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and walk-in closets, with full-size, front-loading washers and dryers. Some units also feature island kitchens open to living areas.
The renovated building hosts several common areas, such as a rooftop sundeck with grilling stations and seating areas, a fitness center, a billiards and media lounge, a wine tasting room, a private wine storage room, and reservable conference rooms and meeting spaces. Other services include 24/7 valet parking, concierge and door staff, Luxer One package service, and on-site Tesla rentals.
Additionally, the building features a well-known French bistro, Mon Ami Gabi, which is accessible directly from the lobby, providing an additional dining option for residents. The property also offers close proximity to a variety of amenities in Lincoln Park, including the zoo, conservatory, lakefront, and numerous shops and eateries.
Leasing and move-ins are currently underway, with the building expected to be fully occupied by year-end. The monthly rents range from $2,500 to $15,000.

The lobby is stunning but those gray floors in the units make the feel like every other 20th century mega complex.
