Foundation Work Begins for 1948 N Halsted Street in Lincoln Park

At 1948 N Halsted Street in Lincoln Park’s Ranch Triangle, a three-story mixed-use development is now undergoing foundation work. This project, a collaboration between developer Mike Krueger and SPACE Architects + Planners, replaces an existing single-story commercial building and its adjoining parking area.

The 38-foot structure will feature a 4,000-square-foot commercial space, which, according to most recent reports, will house a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. As for the design, the exterior will feature a brick cladding accompanying a retractable window arrangement. For car access, the southern side of the building provides access to residential entrances and a covered garage for four vehicles.

Programming will include three residential units in total: these consist of two-bedroom residences on the second floor, measuring 1,492 and 1,520 square feet, as well as a 2,390-square-foot three-bedroom unit on the third floor, each with private decks.

Public transit options consist of Routes 8 and 73 just paces north to the intersection of Armitage & Halsted, while the Brown and Purple CTA Lines can be found at Armitage Station, a five-minute walk west.

The general contractor McNea & Sons Construction aims to complete the project this year.

  1. I absolutely love this building. Can’t for construction to finish.

More of these in the prairies, please! Two or stories taller too.

  3. So glad to be getting rid of this parking lot, it really negatively affected the feel of this space. Filling this in with this beautiful development is great to see! And I agree with other comments, one way this could have been even better is to add another story or two to add some more density (i.e. customers for the shops below).

  4. RIP manhandler

  5. YES to building a new up to three stories house-building and NO to any change of the residential zoning in this area, such as 1623 N Halsted of 8 stories ( former Circle Sushi) and 1641 N Halsted ( Royal George Theater) seven story proposed and requested residential zoning changes.
    Thank you!
