Since last week’s site prep update, an initial foundation permit has now been issued for the planned hospital addition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in Lake View. The construction of a new lateral addition, known as phase 03A, is taking place at 900 W Nelson Street. This structure will be attached to an adjacent medical building constructed in 2015. Once the phase 03A structure has been built, phase 03B – a vertical expansion sitting on top of both the earlier 2015 building and phase 03A – will begin construction.
Phase 03A of the westward expansion will occupy a total area of 65,000 square feet, providing advanced medical treatments for a variety of patient needs. Outpatient care services will include 54,000 square feet of space with 11,000 square feet dedicated to operating rooms.
SmithGroup‘s concept for phase 03A will ascend to a height of 150 feet, blending in with the aesthetics of its neighboring building from 2015.
Phase 03B will introduce an additional four stories of beds, increasing the total height to 241 feet. This new segment will remain consistent with its metal and glass curtainwall facade from lower floors while also being enhanced by a louvered mechanical penthouse and green roofs.
The new medical building is located a five-minute walk from Belmont station, with access to the closest CTA rail service for Brown, Purple, and Red Lines. Turner Construction Company is overseeing this entire vertical expansion which is slated to end by 2030.
