New permits were issued this past week for a new four-story mixed-use building at 1355 N Western Avenue in West Town. The permit owner is filed under 1353 Western LLC, and according to plans, the development will be comprised of 12 units and retail on the first floor. The building will include front and rear balconies across levels, a rooftop deck, elevators, and an interior parking garage with six spaces. The new structure will replace an existing two-flat.

Michael S Cox is the listed architect, and although neither drawings nor renderings have been made public, there are multiple masonry contractors in the filing, suggesting a brick design.

The closest bus service is Route 49 and can be accessed at the Western & Hirsch Stop which is across the street from the property site. The CTA L Blue Line can be boarded at the Damen station via a 14-minute walk northeast. There are a number of restaurants and retail options in the general vicinity.

KR Contractors and Maintenence is the general contractor for the $1.2 million project. There is no anticipated completion date at this time.

  1. I love seeing these missing “teeth” filled in rather than tearing down existing classic buildings. This is how Chicago becomes even more vibrant and economically successful.

  2. Looks like they just broke ground on this… is there any more info on it? Like a drawing or rendering perhaps? Curious and also happy to see this empty lot filled in.
