Demolition Permits Issued for 949 W Belden Avenue in Lincoln Park

Street View of 949 W Belden Avenue

A demolition permit was issued last week to remove a three-story, multi-unit building with a basement located at 949 W Belden Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as Bob Janis. No filings have been submitted to upgrade any of the zoning designations for this property and there is currently no information on any future constructions at the site.

The nearest CTA Brown, Red, and Purple Lines are available at the Fullerton station via a three-minute walk north. Bus service for Routes 37 and 74 can also be accessed at Fullerton. There are many popular restaurants and retail options within five minutes of the property.

Heneghan Wrecking & Excavating is serving as the demolition contractor. Given the newness of the permit, an anticipated completion date has not yet been announced for the project.

I can understand tearing down an unadorned frame building, but a beautiful greystone?

  3. Awful news.

  4. What a joke

  5. When is this city ever going to preserve it’s character? They should be forcing modern buildings to conform to greystone aesthetics if anything, not demolishing them for soulless buildings with giant balconies fronting the street.

  6. So many vacant and underdeveloped lots in a growing area of desirable places to live in this city… and they choose this to demolish? Shameful.
