For 31 years Architectural Artifacts Inc was a Ravenswood staple for unique architectural remnants, relics, art, and furniture sourced from around the globe. In 2018, it appeared the shop’s journey was at an end, as owner Stuart Granne, offered a large portion of inventory up for auction. It seems that after a four-year hiatus the beloved establishment is back, with a new twist and a new home.

In a story first reported by Block Club Chicago, Grannen has apparently partnered with Bedderman Hospitality to curate a truly unique experience in the Near North Side neighborhood. The project is being described as “the intersection of Wander and Wonder,” providing customers a unique opportunity to eat and drink as they shop Grannen’s amassed collection which will be displayed throughout the renovated building.

The new space is located at 1065 N Orleans Street in what was formerly Immaculate Conception St. Joseph School and will open in mid-July. In addition to housing Architectural Artifacts’ immense collection, the 35,000-square-foot space will feature a cafe that will serve coffee, wine, small bites, as well as a pizza menu by Andrew Holladay. Holladay is currently the executive chef for Lula Cafe in Logan Square. There will be plenty of seating inside and outside the cafe allowing customers room to convene as they explore the three-level building. Bedderman also has planned a basement speakeasy which will open in the fall.

The project also includes rentable event space in the form of the recently refinished gym that will serve as a ballroom to host weddings, corporate conferences, and neighborhood events. When not rented out, it will double as a pickleball court and be available for rental.

All fun until someone spills wine or pizza sauce on an antique. LOL.
