Construction permits have been issued for a new six-story independent senior living building located at 833 W Wilson Avenue in Near North Side. The 71-foot-tall structure will replace a currently empty lot just west of Clarendon Community Center and the broader Montrose park area.

Brinshore Development LLC has planned for a total of 73 residences, distributed across 10 studios, 49 one-bedrooms, and 14 two-bedrooms. From an affordability standpoint, 20 of the units will be offered for those making below 30 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), 34 units for under 60 percent AMI, and 19 units for under 80 percent AMI.

Landon Bone Baker is project architect. The facade comprises of a gray and white square-module precast concrete panels, alongside color metal trimming and ground-level storefronts.

There will be a 44-vehicle parking garage. The property lies within reach of several transportation options, including the Red and Purple Lines at Wilson station within a seven-minute walk west. Also nearby is bus service for Routes 78, 81, 136, 146, and 151.

Linn-Mathes Inc. will serve as general contractor behind the construction, which is expected to cost a total of $42.1 million. An anticipated completion date has not yet been revealed.

  1. 6 stories? Who outlawed high-rises along the lakefront? With all the growth in key demographics such as college educated workers and households making six-figure incomes one would think this prolonged building boom would have included explosive apartment/condo-tower developments along the lakefront. Instead there’s only been a handful of buildings around 200’over the last decade. The tallest building along the shore is still from the 1970’s. It makes absolutely zero sense. If those types of investments aren’t justified today I don’t know how they were ever feasible.

  2. Could anybody tell me when, or who to contact to find out when, the loud banging from the cranes will be done? It is quite a disturbance working from home.

  3. When will the units be ready and how could I be placed on your listing for one of the units. Do you have a site where I could go to fill out an application.
